On August 26th, the federal government via the DOJ settled with eight FBI whistleblowers. One of the eight is Garret O’Boyle who exercised the doctrine of the lesser magistrates in order to interpose against the lawless actions of the FBI, including their targeting of American citizens. O’Boyle made disclosures on COVID-19 shots and policies, the establishment of a tag for investigating parents who attend local school board meetings, the plan to tag those who oppose abortion, and nearly two dozen other issues.
For doing so – on September 26, 2022 – the FBI indefinitely suspended Agent O’Boyle without pay and revoked his security clearance – effectively ending his career and leaving his family without income.
In the settlement, the DOJ has agreed to fully restore FBI Special Agent Garret O’Boyle with back pay, benefits, damages, and full reinstatement – including his security clearance.
After the settlement, Agent O’Boyle stated, “I am grateful to finally see a measure of resolution in my case. This settlement closes a painful chapter for my family and me, but it does not erase the years of retaliation, reputational harm, and financial hardship that we endured simply because I told the truth.”
Understand – men like Garret O’Boyle are rare. Most men just go along-to get along. Few will hazard their lives and jeopardize their careers to confront evil when it raises its ugly head in a nation. Few will take action to rein in the lawlessness of tyrants.
Seutonius once said that when the lesser authority interposes against a tyrant superior authority “he grabs the wolf by the ears.” What he meant by this was that the lesser authority places himself in a perilous position when he defies the tyrant.
We here at Defy Tyrants are thankful to the Lord for this vindication for Garret and his family.

The Lesser Magistrate Doctrine teaches that when the superior or higher ranking civil authority makes unjust/immoral law, policy, or court opinion – the lower or lesser ranking civil authority has both the God-given right and duty to refuse obedience to that superior authority; and if necessary, actively resist the superior authority.
The doctrine was first formalized by Christian men in Magdeburg, Germany in 1550.
The lesser magistrate doctrine is rooted in the historic Christian doctrine of interposition. Interposition is where one steps into the gap – placing themselves in between the oppressor and his intended victim. Interposition can take place verbally or physically.
The law of God is the objective standard to which all men and all governments of men are accountable. If civil authorities make law, policy, or court opinion that is contrary to His law – the lesser magistrates are to interpose and stop the evil.
